If you’re looking for some good Mediterranean food in Walnut Creek, California, there are a few options. First of all, you can try manakishoven.com, which is located in the The Heart Of The Bay Area. If you’re in the mood for a gyro, this place is not for you. Despite its name, it’s not exactly the epitome of Mediterranean cuisine, but it’s decent enough. The hummus, kebabs, flatbread, and lamb shanks are all available, as are vegetarian and vegan dishes.

  • We tried the Tri-Tip Manakish and were completely blown away by it. The pita was fluffy, the cucumber, tomatoes, pickles, and radish were all fresh and crisp with a nice crunch, and the overall flavour was surprising. We had eaten at a Mediterranean restaurant in San Francisco the night before, which had been a huge disappointment, so it was great to be reminded of how good the food can be when it is prepared well. You get a staggering amount of food (which is a trend at Manakish), so you only need one of these to leave satisfied.
  • The manakish was our favourite part of the meal, but the wraps were a close second. They’re huge, as you can see in the photo below! It’s roughly the size of a super burrito, and we were particularly pleased with the amount of meat included. The flavours and spices were spot on, and they even threw in a hot sauce for good measure, which was a pleasant and unexpected surprise!
  • Depending on what you’re hungry when you come, the Chicken Kebab Plate is another terrific option. The chicken was cooked to perfection – they managed to keep every piece moist, and the spice was thick. The hummus was actually quite mild compared to what we’re used to having at other restaurants, but it worked given the tastes from the chicken.
  • This treat tasted like a more subtle tapioca. It wasn’t as sweet as we would have liked, but it was still a refreshing way to end the meal, especially one with such strong spices (in a good way!).
